BBC Sound of Music longlist unveiled

The longlist nominees have been released and include a Cambridge politics graduate, an actor from the Channel 4 TV series Skins and a former Deputy Mayor of Lewisham.

The nominees were selected by 139 music industry experts, including critics, Dj’s and broadcasters. It is a selection of 15 of the best and brightest new acts to emerge on the scene in 2015.

The 15 nominees are:

  • James Bay
  • George The Poet
  • Kwabs
  • Lapsley
  • Rae Morris
  • Novelist
  • Raury
  • Shamir
  • Shura
  • Slaves
  • Soak
  • Stormzy
  • Sunset Sons
  • Wolf Alice
  • Years & Years

The top five will be announced on January 5th and the winner announced on January 11th.

The award helps solidify success in the music industry as previous winners have seen their careers propelled by the recognition.

2013 winners Haim commented on their experience after winning the award: “At the beginning of the week, we literally had three people at our show in this huge vineyard. It really felt like we were playing to no one. But we played over 10 shows and by the end of the week it was packed – you couldn’t get in.”
